Comforts

Which way to go? It's all about choices, giving ourselves options and not simply reacting in the moment.

With my pain level rising these past few days, it would be so easy to fall back into food as my comfort.  Instead, I'm chosing to write and think it through.  I decided to allow myself to feel a little hunger while I think through my feelings and think through my pain level (not sure if that makes sense to anyone who hasn't suffered with chronic pain or not.)  I am drinking my ice water, and finding ways to rest and stay on course with my meds that the doctor gave me, paying careful attention not to over indulge there either... that would lead to an entirely different set of problems!
I am making the choice to stay on track with my food plan and I am finding other ways (aside from food) to distract myself from my pain level.

Two days ago, a friend and I went and had pedicures done (well, I had my toe nails painted only on the one foot, the other foot had the full treatment!)  We went out for a great lunch, I was so excited that I made fabulous food choices (happy dance!!)  and had a lovely time.   Yesterday I went to the movies with my son and shared some popcorn, moderation was the key!

Today is the last day in our long weekend, I'm going to plan for a successful week and prepare my work clothes for the week and plan out my meals for the week.  Prepacking some items (almonds for instance) will make lunch packing so much easier.   Once I have these planning chores done I will be able to relax and know that I have given myself a real head start to have a successful week!
Pay attention to the details, be proactive not reactive.

I was thinking that it would be great to have a list of "comforts" to turn to when we are stressed, in pain, in a bad mood, hurt, upset, and yes, even when you're in a great mood and want to reward yourself.

OK, let's see:
. spa/pedicure/maincure (some people love massages, creeps me out.)
. bubble bath
. read a book
. take the dog for a walk
. coffee with a friend
. go to a movie
. go to a baseball game
. go to a play at the park
. opera (not as bad as it sounds, I promise)
. go to the library... really a great resource that is under used
